Why install a Radon System in your Home?
According to the EPA a standard level of less than 4.0 pCi/L is considered safe. Many homes in our area have levels twice that due to the amount of radon found
in our soil. A radon reduction system removes much of the radon before it even gets inside your home. For more details about possible health issues related to radon please consult the EPA website. Most home buyers now require testing
for radon. If your home is above the EPA standard most lenders will require
your home be fixed before the sale can close. It never hurts to be ahead on this.
Scheduling Testing
There are a limited number of monitoring units available, so it is always best to
schedule your testing early to reserve a unit. Most systems can be installed in
one work day. After installation of a new radon removal system your home will
be tested again for 3 days to be sure radon levels are at an acceptable level.
Testing Conditions
While a Radon monitoring device is in your home, all exterior doors and windows to the testing area must remain closed. The testing unit records movement,
tampering with the unit can cause test failure, and the need to test over.
The standard test time is 3 days.
What is a "Standard" installation?
Standard installation requires only one fan and one floor mount, and must
be in an easily accessed unfinished location. ( Most basement laundry rooms)
Examples of non-standard installation would include: Homes with no unfinished
living space, homes that require more than one floor mount or fan, and homes
that require longer runs or difficult exterior venting access.
Trip Charges
Most trip charges are minimal. Most outer area installs only see a $50 increase
to cover extra fuel and time.
